Driving in Memphis

July 5 (Sunday)-Memphis, TN
Day 4

Mama Camp always enters Memphis, Tennessee listening to Johnny Cash. (Particularly The Johnny Cash Children’s album.)

At the Tennessee welcome center the big and little camper got to stretch their legs all the way down to the near by park benches with dozing hobos.

The little camper started dancing to the music...

A quick drive-by through “Victorian Village” to grab a picture of the “Woodruff-Fontaine” house and St. Mary's Episcopal Cathedral and then farther south to see the fence at Graceland was all we needed to get our fill of Memphis. It is such a shame that the citizens don't take pride in these historic homes.

The Camp Director had thoroughly toured Graceland back in 1997 (loved it!) but knew that the little campers would want to climb the furniture so we chose a drive by view. There were several music studio tours that looked interesting but they did not allow children under 5 (sometimes not under 12). Camp Daddy was so depressed at the poverty and wayward folk hanging at every street corner that we grabbed our photos and went on our way. Sorry, Memphis...we know you take care of some of our good friends and have a rich history but after 5pm there wasn't much for us to do with the kids downtown.

On our way back we’ll try the Memphis Zoo or the Pink Palace.
Forecast: Intermittent Rain
